Nice To Meet You. I’m V. L Brown!

Born and raised in the sweeping landscapes of Montana, I am deeply rooted in the traditions and stories of the Gros Ventre, Cree, and Assiniboine Nations. My passion for storytelling was ignited by my desire to preserve and share the rich histories of my parents and ancestors. This journey began with my nonfiction works, Babs and Oscar’s House, and has grown into the vibrant world of historical fiction with the release of my debut novel, The Greybeards of Montana. For the past 30 years, I’ve shared my life with my husband, who has maintained a strong belief in my writing. Together, we’ve raised four wonderful children who have been a source of endless encouragement. They’ve applauded each book that has been published and supported me through the long hours of writing, editing, and dreaming.

When I’m Not Writing…

I have a love for travel and reading. One of my most cherished memories is the summer my daughters and I spent exploring the enchanting landscapes of France, immersing ourselves in its history, culture, and charm. Those moments broadened my perspective and deepened my appreciation for storytelling as a universal art. As a writer, I’ve come to understand the power of stories to bridge cultures, inspire change, and uplift voices that often go unheard. I’ve loved crafting compelling narratives—my wish is to empower young writers to believe in their dreams and pursue their goals, no matter how distant they may seem. I want aspiring authors to know it’s possible to overcome obstacles and turn their ideas into reality, just as I have done. When I’m not writing or traveling, you can find me enjoying time with my family, reading, or researching other cultures. Through my work, I hope to inspire not just a deeper appreciation for Native American culture but also a belief in the power of storytelling.
